All Play! Your Guide to Ticketed and On-Demand Events at MagicCon!
At MagicCon: Chicago, there are dozens of Ticketed Play and On Demand Events to choose from! Compared to last year’s show, MagicCon: Chicago will feature DOUBLE the space to play including ALL of downstairs in Hall E, and tons of ways to enjoy the game you love.
A SPEEDY NEW FORMAT: LIGHTNING DRAFT!
One of the most exciting On Demand Events at MagicCon: Chicago is a brand-new, 4-player draft format called Lightning Draft. Lighting Drafts are 4 player drafts where each player gets 3 Foundations boosters and then chooses 2 cards with each pick. Players will build a 40-card deck and battle for 2 rounds. Head over to the On Demand area and sign up! These drafts will launch as soon as 4 players register!
Here are prizes you can win based on your W-L!
- Win: 1,200 Prize Tix
- Loss: 400 Prize Tix
Race to the Finish
These Constructed events – one each of Modern, Pioneer, Pauper, and Standard – include three rounds of play with 1000 Prize Tix for each win and 800 Prize Tix for each loss. But it wouldn’t be a race to the finish without a spectacular prize at the end!
In the spirit of the race across the planes in Aetherdrift, if you make it across the finish line unscathed, with an undefeated record, you’ll get a First-Place Box Topper pack. These are exciting, Aetherdrift-unique packs with two cards, both in the new first-place foil treatment – a shimmering layer of gold-like foil that extends across their borders.
One of those cards is a full-art basic land, and the other is a rare or mythic rare card that can be one of Aetherdrift’s Special Guest, borderless, or extended-art cards.
Undefeated players in the Modern and Pauper events will also walk away with a $150 value Heavy Play product bundle!
Secret Lair Spectacular
Bring your Modern-legal deck for a Constructed event with a twist! At the start of the event you’ll receive a Redemption Challenge Ticket which can be used during the event to take your match into the SECRET LAIR!
Entering the Secret Lair Spectacular adds a specially designed deck of Planechase cards to help turn the tide of the game. You can only take your game into the Secret Lair once, so use your Redemption Challenge Ticket wisely!
And if the twist isn’t enough, this event is packed with special prizes! All players will receive a non-foil Sudden Edict promo and the secret Redemption Challenge Item, and there are also Questing Druid and Lightning Bolt promos in foil and non-foil and Secret Lair Li’l’est Walker Mystery Boxes on the line.
Savvy Pin Trader Sealed Leagues
You’ll start off with two Aetherdrift Collector boosters and four Aetherdrift Play boosters, and from there it’s time to see if you can build and swap your way to a winning deck!
Participants also get one Mystery Pin bag AND the Savvy Trader Sealed League EXCLUSIVE pin!
Trade cards for cards, cards for pins, pins for cards – any way you want to swap to put your deck together is fair game. Only cards opened in the event are eligible for trade and inclusion in your event deck, but you can trade any pins you have! Play your six league matches any time over the course of the weekend, keeping track of them on your League Card, and don’t forget to collect your Prize Tix at the end!
Savvy Pin Trader events are available each day!
Hosted Events
Hosted events are special Ticketed Play events where the formats can range from the classic and competitive to the creative and goofy. These events are not meet and greets – instead, they’re a chance to play formats curated and created by some of your favorite personalities, who will also be hosting!
Ify Nwadiwe & Brian David Gilbert
Ify Nwadiwe & Brian David Gilbert host a special kind of Commander Sealed event with a D&D Twist! Build a Commander deck from 12 packs (4x Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate, 3x Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, 2x Commander Masters, 3x Magic Foundations) and answer questions from the Um Actually hosts along the way! Gameplay will also feature a return of the Baldur's Gate Wilderness Dungeon from the Dungeons & Dragons 50th Anniversary celebration events.
Brian David-Marshall
Commander Boxing League’s number one fan returns to Chicago with his favorite events! BDM will host both three different flavors of Commander Boxing League across the weekend, so there are plenty of opportunities to pick the one that’s right for you.
There’s a classic Commander Boxing League, where you’ll open 30 Aetherdrift play boosters to build your Commander deck. There’s also Commander Sealed Grand Melee, where players will open 24 Mystery Booster 2 boosters to build their Commander deck – and then match up in Grand Melee formation!
But of course the highlight is BDM’s signature Commander and Cocktails. This Commander Boxing League will have players building their decks from 3 packs each of Commander Masters, Outlaws of Thunder Junction, Bloomburrow, and Duskmourn, and 4 packs each of Foundations, Innistrad Remastered, and Aetherdrift. More importantly, though, registrants will also take home a fun Tiki mug from the event and a recipe card for a specially crafted cocktail from the mind of BDM himself.
CovertGoBlue
CovertGoBlue brings Forgetful Fish to MagicCon: Chicago on both Friday and Saturday. In this one-of-a-kind event there’s one thing that’s not unique – your deck! All players will receive a fishy playmat with entry – just another reason to join this incredibly fun event!
In Forgetful Fish, you and your opponent will both be playing from a single 80-card deck provided during the event! You’ll share a library, a graveyard, and an exile zone as you battle across five rounds for a spot in the Top 4.
Specifically, you’ll be playing the iconic Forgetful Fish deck, which takes its name from Memory Lapse and Dandân, two of the centerpiece cards of the format. It’s part casual format, part urban legend, and at MagicCon: Chicago you can try your skill at it. Can you best the Forgetful Fish and rise to the top? Find out!
LadeeDanger
Beware of the scares in a Duskmourn and Innistrad Remastered double-header! Players will receive three packs each of Duskmourn and Innistrad Remastered to build a deck full of creepy crawlies, jump scares, and monsters for three rounds of play.
Do the house’s horrors outweigh the threat of vampires and werewolves? Is it ever daytime in Duskmourn? This is your chance to find out!
Numot the Nummy
Join Numot the Nummy for three key pit stops on the Omenpath 500. Each pit stop is a Grand Melee sealed event, which means there’s a twist – there are new game effects every round!
The excitement starts at the very beginning, because in addition to the six known boosters for each event, players will receive a seventh surprise booster. From there things only get more wild every round as the host announces unique game effects sure to maximize fun!
The Professor
Take a class on Innistrad with the Professor and enjoy some of the plane’s finer points! In the Professor’s Innistrad Remastered Classes you’ll learn both the basics with four Innistrad Remastered Play boosters, as well as some advanced material with two Innistrad Remastered Collector boosters. Don’t let the vampires scare you away from a great education!
Cup Tournaments
Hone your competitive edge with any of seven different kinds of Cup tournaments – the most competitive way to battle in Ticketed Play. Whether you play Legacy, Limited (1st time at MagicCon!), Pioneer, Duel Commander, Pauper, Modern, or Standard, there’s a Cup for you, and it’s the best place to test your mettle against each format’s toughest competitors.
These events kick off with up to seven rounds of Swiss play, followed by a cut to the Top 8. All participants receive a playmat, and Swiss rounds award 1800 Prize Tix for a win and 600 for a loss. In the Top 8 more prizes are on the line, and first place will be able to flaunt their win with a trophy and winner’s playmat!
